Tanzania Safari Packing list

But before you step into this wild paradise, let’s talk about the essentials that you will need to include in your Packing list before you begin your safari. This isn’t just a mere packing list it is more than that, each and every equipment suggested will help to enhance your experience during the safari. Are you ready Hakuna Matata!

1. Travel Documents Required.

Valid Passport: Make sure your passport is valid for at least six months from the date you enter Tanzania.

Visa

Visa Online Visa Application: Apply in Advance: You can apply online for a Tanzanian Tourist visa before your trip through the official Tanzanian e-Visa portal. Tourist visas are valid for either 90 or 30 days, depending on the kind of application selected. Applying online allows you to have your visa ready before you arrive, saving time at the airport. Visa on Arrival: Upon arrival at major Tanzanian airports (such as Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam or Kilimanjaro International Airport in Kilimanjaro), you can also obtain a Tourist visa. If you choose to get your visa upon arrival ensure that you have the necessary documents including: passport, passport photos, and visa fee in cash which is USD 100 for US Citizens and USD 50 for other citizens.

Yellow fever vaccination certificate

If you are travelling to Tanzania from a country where yellow fever is considered endemic, you must have a yellow fever vaccination certificate. Travelers from the United States and Europe do not require the vaccination. Yellow fever vaccination is now good for life, so you only need one shot. Retain your yellow vaccination certificate as old certificates do not expire.

Cash in USD Dollars

USD Dollars is widely accepted at various tourism establishments such as Hotels, Lodges and travel agencies. For making purchases at the local markets, shops, Local restaurants, local transport payment you are required to have Tanzanian Shillings that you can obtain from Banks or Foreign exchange Bureaus.US dollars should be dated 2013 or later, because older notes are not accepted by most banks and exchange offices in Tanzania.

2. Best Safari Clothes Required

  • long-sleeved shirts-that will protect you from the sun throughout the day and keep you warm in the nights.
  • Convertible pants that can be converted into shorts as needed.
  •  Lightweight jacket or shawl: ideal for chilly mornings or evenings.

3. Footwear

  • Comfortable hiking shoes are required for safaris and treks.
  • Sandals or Slippers: Perfect for relaxing at the beach or around your accommodation.
  • Socks

4. Swimwear:

If you plan to visit Zanzibar or other coastal areas, don’t forget your swimsuit. You can also use it for swimming in your preferred accommodation since they all have good swimming pools.

5. Headgear and Accessories:

  • Wide-brimmed hat or cap that Shields you from the intense sun.
  • Sunglasses that Protect your eyes from UV rays.
  • Lightweight rain jacket in case of rain.

6. Toiletries:

  • Toothbrush and toothpaste to Maintain oral hygiene.
  • Wet wipes: Useful for freshening up, especially during long journeys.
  • Hand sanitizer: Keep your hands clean.
  • Shampoo and conditioner: opt for travel-sized bottles.
  • Soap or body wash: Choose biodegradable options to minimize environmental impact.
  • Deodorant: Stay fresh in the warm climate.
  • Hairbrush or Comb

7. Health and First Aid:

  • Prescription medications: In case you are under medication bring enough for the entire trip.
  • Basic first aid kit: Include band-aids, antiseptic cream, and any necessary for basic first aid.
  • Insect repellent: Protect against mosquitoes and other bugs.
  • Sunscreen: Tanzanian sun can be intense so a sunscreen is necessary.
  • Lip balm with SPF: Keep your lips moisturized and protected.
  • Reusable water bottle: Stay hydrated!
